DIE WIERZYCA (FERSE)
Trip duration: 5 days (for the whole trail length). Difficulty: (2)
River length 150 km / 135 km trail length
The Wierzyca is a left tributary of the Vistula River. It begins in the Kashubian Lake District in the area of the Szymbarskie hills at the foot of Castle Mountain. It joints the Vistula in Gniew.
The Wierzyca in its initial stages is overgrown with reeds and inaccessible, and in parts is deep. From Starogard Gdanski the river begins to significantly accelerate, and its banks are overgrown in places with osiers, but mostly it flows without problem. The Wierzyca is a fast flowing river and has a big drop, with many fallen trees and submerged boulders. In the course of the river there are a lot of carryovers – mainly due to the presence of numerous hydroelectric power plants and low footbridges over the water.
The Wierzyca is recommended for kayakers who have had a few run-offs.
